Schedule Changes - February 5-8
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Hey guys!

I have some thing planned for the weekend of February 6th which will make uploading races, verifying football games, etc. unmanageable.  To accommodate this, there will be a change to the normal schedule of weekend activities.

Deeproute / VOFL - No games or practices will be processed starting Saturday at Noon EST and progressing through Monday evening.  That will be 3 days with no games (Saturday - Monday).

DerbyFever - I will post Saturday results on Friday evening at approximately 6:00 PM EST (so claims will need to be in by this time).  The update that follows this will be posted several hours later (probably around 10:00 PM EST).  I will perform the regular weekend update that normally occurs on Sunday as early as 7:00 AM EST on Saturday morning (so breeding, race bidding, etc needs to be in at this time).

Thank you for you understanding.

Viewer News
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Hey guys!

Well, we've made some progress! I have signed the contract and sent the first installment payment in for the new viewer! Clap

The company, BLIT, Inc., has done some fantastic work for some big companies.  They have already begun work on the viewer, and have an ambitious schedule for completion.  Check out some of their work at http://blitinteractive.com

The viewer will require the Unity3D plugin, but will play inside your browser.  Unity3D is much more advanced for 3D rendering than Shockwave, and the plugin is actually smaller.

I'm very excited, and I hope everyone else is as well!

Stable upload kicked the bucket yesterday...
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

..somewhere in the middle.  I wasn't aware of it until this morning.  I am updating everything again.

I'll try to hold off an extra hour or so before today's update, but I have a pretty busy schedule today that involved getting the update complete.  Sorry for the problems.

Generally, if you don't see things compeltely updated by 5:00 on a Saturday, something went wrong.  If that's the case, always feel free to contact me.

Thanks!

Sire Upgrades / Downgrades
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

By popular demand, I wanted to make at least a quick update of some of the new sires in the game and some upgrades / downgrades.  To avoid any "unexpected results", I will not be downgrading the sires in this list until after this week's breedings (though the upgrades have been in place since the beginning fo the year).

For starters, I have smoothed out the upper level sires to put them on a more level playing field versus one another.   This was generally an improvement to most sires, with very few downgrades (and only enough to get things in line, not for punishment purposes).

As for new sires : I found it to be a relatively week crop, but there were a few notables.  I picked a handful of the top ones in no particular order :

Sea The Stars (who I rated as highly as any new sire I have ever had in the game)
Delta Blues
MasterCraftsman
Sebring
Yeats
Einstein
Zensational

Some of my larger upgrades (some of which were already pretty high, but trying to get some of them to a more elite level required a bump):

Candy Ride
Medaglia D'Oro
Indian Ridge
Cape Cross
Malibu Moon
Galileo
Pivotal
Danehill Dancer
More Than Ready
Street Cry

Some of my notable downgrades :

Ghostzapper
Smarty Jones
Storming Home
Forestry
Oratorio
Mineshaft

..so that's it for now!

Thanks, and good luck! And be on the lookout for a new view announcement very soon! Thumbs%20Up

Updating upcoming special races for 2010..
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

..so the update will be later than usual.

I will also be addressing the fact that a lot of maiden 3YO races are 3yo+ early in the year.  That is due to some problems with lock maiden / allowance races after th yearly rollover.  They should start fixing themselves in a few weeks, but it will take a bit of attention on my end.

Also.. I have been having some serious discussions about the viewer again.  The guys I am talking for have worked on flash interfaces for some big companies, and i am more than confident they will do a great job if everything gets hammered out.  As always, I'll keep you guys informed. Smile

Rollover done.. updating not.. yet..
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Hey guys!

I believe I am finished with the rollover, sire update, etc.  Everything should be uploaded.

I am going to hold off a few hours to see if anyone can find a problem.

The main problems I am looking for are things like age discrepencies, jockey experience problems, etc.  If you see a sire still standing that shouldn't be, let me know : it won't stop the roll over, but I'd like to know.

Send me an e-mail or use the "contact" link if you see anything.

I've scrubbed it all pretty well, but I'm honestly fighting some sort of virus and need to take a nap.  I'll come back later to look for problems.  If I don't find any, I'll turn off the update light and we'll get going for the new year.

..and yes.. the first time for breeding will be TOMORROW night.  That's to give me time to fix anything that we missed. Wink

Thanks again guys!

Note on the Year End Update
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

A few notes on the weekend:

Very early on Sunday (possibly as early as 7:00 AM EST), I will begin updating the game for the upcoming year.  THIS PROCESS TAKES NEARLY ALL DAY - DON'T EXPECT THE UPDATE TO BE DONE UNTIL VERY LATE SUNDAY... MAYBE AS LATE AS MONDAY!

I may not have all new sires added after the update.  This year's update is proving more difficult to finish due to my time constraints.  If you see a notable sire missing after the update, go ahead and e-mail me about it even though it's possible he will be added the following week.

I always have a few sires still active after the update that need to be retired, as well as several that are still standing that I missed.  Feel free to contact me with those as well.

All active 12 year olds WILL BE RETIRED and replaced by CPU horses. If you have an active 12 year old horse you want bred, you must do it before the update starts on Sunday!

Next week will begin the "new year."  Horses will age after the update.  Yes... there will be RODOTS races run reflecting the new age prior to the New Year.

That's it for now!  Thanks for another excellent year, and I hope to update you guys soon on several things I look forward to adding in the upcoming year!

Sire Help Request! And line upgrades (downtime?)..
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Hey guys!

I am looking for some help grading some sires.  Nothing really formalized.. just some info incase I miss any.  If you want to help out :

Send me a small list of sires you consider to be "the best" of the upcoming crop.  Compare the sire to a sire that has had recent success.  Include any racing info on the horse you may have.

Send me a small list of sires you think deserve and upgrade in the sim and why.

Send me a small list of sires you think deserve and downgrade in the sim and why.

Keep these rather compact and small... I'm swimming in information as it is, but want to make sure I get as much info as I can (without my head exploding).

Finally, I should be upgrading from a DSL line to a T1 within the next couple of weeks.  This may cause some downtime as I make the move.  The T1 line is faster and more stable.

Also : I hope to make a post regarding the viewer soon.  Trust me... I haven't forgotten and I am still willing.  Smile  The good news is that some things were recently resolved that should allow this project to start moving forward again.  I have contacted a couple of companies in hopes of finding the right fit for this project.  I'll let you guys know when I know more.

Thanks!
